Our goal is to help you maximize your plant’s productivity, reduce operating costs, and facilitate safe, continuous, and sustainable processes. Whether you need a cardboard recycling line, paper and cardboard recycling machinery, or specific solutions for large-scale cardboard recycling, we manufacture complete equipment that guarantees stable, high-quality results.

How to recycle cardboard and paper in an industrial plant?

Recycling cardboard and paper in an industrial plant requires specialized machinery capable of processing large volumes of material efficiently, reliably, and precisely. At Silmisa, we have over three decades of experience manufacturing equipment that optimizes every phase of recycling these materials, from waste reception to final preparation for reuse in other production processes.

To transform used paper and cardboard into new products, it is essential to have a recycling line that guarantees:

Volume reduction through crushing or initial disintegration.

Separation of impurities and pre-classification.

Homogenization of the material to improve the quality of recycling.

Continuous and automated processes that increase productivity.

Granulator for paper and cardboard

The granulator is the equipment responsible for obtaining a finer and more homogeneous final particle size. It allows for precise material reduction, making it essential equipment for plants that require high-quality end products.

Industrial shredder for paper and cardboard

The shredder is the heart of the process. Its function is to convert cardboard and paper into uniform particles, optimizing the flow to the granulator or compactor. They are notable for their robustness, ease of maintenance, and ability to handle high volumes without sacrificing efficiency.

Paper and cardboard pre-shredder

It handles the first stage of the process, namely breaking down and reducing the size of the material on a large scale. This equipment ensures efficient opening of the material, preventing blockages and preparing the flow for the subsequent finer crushing stages.

Overband for improper separation

In the recycling of these materials, it is common to find unwanted metals such as staples, hardware, or small ferrous parts. This equipment ensures a safer production line and a higher quality final product.

Conveyor belt

They are essential for ensuring a continuous and automated line throughout the entire process. Their design is adapted to withstand heavy loads, maintain a stable flow, and facilitate integration with manual, optical, or mechanical sorting systems.

Recycling process cardboard step by step

Cardboard recycling is a highly efficient process that allows large volumes of recycled cardboard to be converted into new raw material ready for reuse. Thanks to the combination of cardboard recycling machinery such as pre-shredders, shredders, granulators, and separation systems, companies optimize their production capacity and reduce their operating costs.

The industrial process is detailed step by step below:

Receiving and sorting cardboard

The cardboard undergoes an initial sorting process to remove unsuitable materials such as plastics, adhesive tapes, and metals. This stage ensures clean processing and improved yield.

Pre-shredded cardboard

The cardboard first passes through an industrial pre-shredder whose function is to break down and deconstruct large or compacted pieces, facilitating the flow of material to later stages.

Crushing to reduce size

After pre-shredding, the material is fed into a cardboard shredder which reduces its size to more uniform dimensions to obtain manageable and suitable fragments.

Granulation or refining

In this phase, the shredded material is transformed into much finer particles. It also improves homogeneity and prepares the material for mixing and creating paper pulp.

Automatic conveying and separation

Conveyor belts connect the stages, ensuring a continuous flow between machines and reducing manual handling. Overbands remove metals that have passed the first sorting stage.

Mix with water and create a paste

The cardboard is fed into a pulper or mixer to create "paper pulp." The fibers are separated and impurities are removed before it goes to the final manufacturing process of recycled cardboard rolls or sheets.

Recycling process paper

The paper recycling process is a structured flow that allows the transformation of waste paper into new raw material ready for manufacturing. Our equipment guarantees efficient, stable treatment with high levels of purity in the final result.

Below, we detail the key stages of the process, integrating equipment such as pre-crushers, crushers, granulators, conveyor belts, and overband separators:

Receiving, classifying and transporting the material

Paper recycling begins with the receipt of paper waste: mixed paper, printed paper, industrial scraps, or office supplies.

Pre-crushed to reduce volume

The initial processing step consists of pre-shredding the paper with machinery designed to reduce the size of the material and facilitate subsequent stages.

Main crushing and homogenization

After pre-shredding, the material passes to the industrial paper shredder which further reduces the fraction until a uniform format is obtained and suitable for reprocessing.

Separation of impropers using overband

Once shredded, the material passes through an overband separator, essential to guarantee the final quality. It removes metallic or other impurities that may have been mixed in with the paper.

Granulation and refining of the fiber

In this stage a granulator is used to further refine the particle size.

Compaction or sending to pulping

Depending on the customer's needs and the final destination of the material, the process can conclude in two ways: compaction and storage or direct shipment to the pulping line.

At Silmisa, we have been designing, manufacturing and installing paper and cardboard recycling machinery since 1987 for companies seeking to improve their productivity, reduce costs and ensure a stable and safe recycling process. If you want to implement a new line, renew your equipment or increase the capacity of your plant, our technical team can advise you from the very beginning and offer you a customized solution.
