Processing and recovery of plastic waste

Plastic recycling is the process by which plastic waste is recovered and transformed into new useful products. This reduces dependence on virgin raw materials derived from petroleum.

Plastic waste can come from different sources such as containers, packaging, bottles, films, pipes, industrial components, automotive parts, etc. Once it has been processed, i.e. after going through the stages of shredding, washing and granulation, it becomes raw material for the manufacture of plastic pellets, textile fibres, construction products or new packaging.

In addition, more than 350 million tonnes of plastic waste are generated worldwide every year. However, a large proportion of this ends up in landfills or in the environment. Recycling this material reduces pollution and the consumption of fossil resources, and generates added value by transforming waste into reusable resources.

Classification of plastic waste

PET (Polyethylene Terephthalate)

Lightweight, impact resistant, transparent, and does not degrade easily.

HDPE (High-density polyethylene)

Highly resistant to impact and chemicals. It is opaque and withstands higher temperatures than other plastics.

PVC (Polyvinyl chloride)

Strong and durable with waterproof properties and resistant to chemicals.

LDPE (Low-density polyethylene)

Flexible and impact resistant. It is one of the least dense plastics and is used in products where flexibility is required.

PP (Polypropylene)

Heat and impact resistant, it is used in products that require rigidity and durability.

PS (Polystyrene)

Lightweight and with good insulating capacity. It can be rigid or expanded.

Raffia

Raffia is generally made from polypropylene (PP) or high-density polyethylene (HDPE).

Plastic film

It is usually composed of LDPE (low-density polyethylene) or LLDPE (linear low-density polyethylene).

Thermal blanket

They are usually made of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) coated with a layer of aluminium that helps retain heat.

Others

It includes some plastics that do not fit into the above categories, such as polycarbonate, nylon, or acrylic.

Customized solutions to make use of plastic waste

At Silmisa Maquinaria, we design and manufacture plastic recycling solutions tailored to the needs of each customer and to the different types of polymers that require treatment.

Our recycling plants are characterized by their high processing capacity, energy efficiency and low operating costs. This enables us to consistently guarantee a final product with the purity required for reuse.

Likewise, our recycling systems use crushing, washing, granulation and mechanical separation technologies capable of processing clean or impure plastics. All of this prioritizes sustainability and maximum material recovery.

Finally, we invite you to visit our shredders or granulator mills for more information.
